Installation of regular Windows apps is possible but not supported by Microsoft. It is built on top of Server 2003. It is possible to install anything as long as it does not interact with directories that allocated for the sake of data storage. You should not attempt to use locations hard disk file locations, instead you can use a web server by pointing it to desktop or a media server that is pointing to a file share location. It must always be remembered the Microsoft does not support adding anything and partition managers and tools for drive indexing can create problems. Windows Home Server was not designed for this. You can certainly add third party add-ins. ‘WHS Connector for Windows Phone 7’ lets you access your WHS to perform view alerts, start or stop backups services, and manage users. You can enhance your server admin tasks with ‘Advanced Admin Console 2011’ from within the dashboard. You can use ‘Lights Out’ add-in to optimize power consumption of your WHS. Management of your downloads through Windows phone 7 is possible by using WHS µTorrent. You can also try a free add-in, AWIECO Drive Info to get a graphical overview of shared folders and hard disks from within the dashboard.
