Although they work together in some ways, web server and domain name are two different stuffs. Both have their own independent functions. But you also should understand that public cannot access your website or to any information in your website if you do not have a domain name. So it means web hosting cannot function without a domain name. Nevertheless, domain names can be obtained without web hosting. The domain names are kept in “parked” state till such time that you point the name servers to the web host. The IP address will be required point the domain name servers to the other servers. There are several free web hosts that allow creation of website without a domain name. The problem arises when that free host closes his shop. You will have to start all over again and establish new clients as you will need a new host as well as a new name.
