What is Data Transfer/Bandwidth?

Bandwidth and data transfer are terms you come across commonly on sites offering web hosting services. There terms are technically different. Data transfer is the total amount of data a server transfers to a particular website within a specific time period. Most hosting services measure the data transferred across a server over a 30 day period.

Bandwidth refers to the maximum amount of data that is transferable in a given period of time. It is the amount of data transmitted over unit time. It shows how fast data flows on a specific transmission path or medium. If a hosting service provider offers greater bandwidth, the website will load faster as it can transfer more data per second.
