Which is More Secure VPS or Shared Hosting?

Security to the website is one of the reasons that businesses prefer the VPS server to the shared hosting. Although on both the platforms, you share the server and resources with other websites, VPS hosts your site in an independently isolated container where no outside entity can gain access. However, lack of technical knowledge to configure the server with proper security can become troublesome for the VPS customers. In shared hosting, the hosts take responsibility of the configurations and ensure it is well protected.

The disadvantage with shared hosting is that if one of the accounts is compromised it is more than likely to have its impact on the other accounts sharing the server resources. This risk is avoidable in VPS as each website is separated in individual racks like in a dedicated server.

VPS users are given a dedicated IP address which separates them from the other accounts. It gives them more security from being disturbed due to a neighbour’s actions. In shared hosting, all the websites share a common IP address. In case one site does some illegal acts and the IP address is suspended it has its impact on all the sites sharing the server.

You must consider the security risks that you are vulnerable to and your own capabilities to manage the server before you choose a hosting platform. You also must choose your web host with equal consideration.
