You may want to change your password in case you have forgotten it or you had scribbled it somewhere and lost the slip. Go4hosting recommends that you change your root password that we send you with your user ID when you open your VPS account.

Use the following steps to change the root password on your cPanel VPS.

Log in to the SSH on your VPS. Issue the following command: “passwd root”.

Type the new password that you have decided. Retype it again. You should remember it and it should be unique. Please note, the password characters will not reflect on your screen as you type. You will get a confirmation message that says “all authentication tokens updated successfully”. To test the update, you log out and log in again.

You can reset your root password via rescue mode, you should restart the VPS in Rescue Mode. Go to your VPS customer account, switch to Expert mode and press Restart. Launch the passwd command and type the new password twice. You will get a confirmation message.

You can also change password via WHM. Select the Server configuration panel. Select change Root Password panel. Choose a strong password and retype it twice.
