Virtual Box was originally offered by Innotek GmbH under a proprietary software license. It was later on purchased by Sun Microsystems in 2008.In current times, Oracle corporation over took this product and re branded it as Oracle VM Virtual box.

Oracle VM Virtual Box, earlier referred to as Sun Virtual Box, Sun xVM Virtual Box and innotek Virtual Box describes a virtualization software package for x86 and AMD64/Intel64.based computers. These computers are provided by Oracle Corporation, as a portion of its family of virtualization products.. It is operated by installing it on an existing host operating system as an application. This host application permits additional guest operating systems, commonly known as a Guest OS, to be loaded and run, with its own virtual environment.
